Our Sport

Flatwater Sprint Kayaking is an Olympic event where contests compete in 500 and 1000 meter races, in singles (k1), doubles (k2), or fours (k4). Other disciplines of kayaking include Slalom (also Olympic), and several other non-Olympic disciplines including marathon (35km races), wildwater, and kayak polo. There are also 200 meter flatwater events at the World Championships, but the only mens Olympic events are the K1 and K2 500 meters and the K1, K2, and K4 1000 meters.

We race in long and narrow racing kayaks constructed out of lightweight, stiff carbon fiber. A sprint K-1 must weight 12kg (26lbs) for races, but they are made as light as 8kg (17lbs). Extra weight is added to these especially lightweight constructions at strategic points to ensure proper boat trim in the water. Check out the gallery for some pictures and video of sprint kayaks in action.

We are also working on developing a library, where you can view all the literature we consult to create our training programs and ensure proper nutrition and lifestyle techniques.
